Sony uplifts Tata Sky’s restrictions

Sony Pictures has lifted the restriction of Live TV recording, pause and rewind performance on Tata Sky for the users during the Live cricket games between Australia and India.

A few days back, the official broadcasters of the Australian tour got into a spat with one of India’s leading DTH provider, Tata Sky. Sony restricted Tata Sky’s new feature to play, pause, or rewind a live match.

Tata Sky offers a Tata Sky+ HD Set-up Box (STB)at the price of INR 4,999. The STB has an in-built technology allowing the subscribers to the Live TV recording, pause, and rewind.

This move of allowing the users to play, pause, or rewind a live event is one of its kind, because a user in India can only “play, pause, or rewind” a live event on the OTT platform. Moreover, the restriction would drive more subscribers to the broadcaster’s own OTT platform, SonyLIV premium.

Currently, it is unclear whether the decision is only uplifted for Tata Sky or for the rival providers like, Airtel DTH and Dish TV, as well.

Recently, Sony Pictures Networks has signed a sponsorship deal with WinZO, an Indian e-sports gaming platform, making them the co-powered sponsor for Sony LIV during the India and Australia series.
